Scarletta Media is run by me, Melanie Mackie, a fan of all things social.

How Scarletta began

In the summer of 2009 I left my corporate role and decided to launch Scarletta Media. There was something about social media that fascinated me, and it still does today.

I had no idea how the social world would take off and impact on our day-to-day lives, but it has and the growth has been phenomenal. It is incredible to witness and very exciting to be a part of.

Having gained a wealth of social experience in my previous corporate role, I used that knowledge to establish Scarletta Media. As a start-up business, with limited funds, read that as “extremely limited” funds, I set out on my mission to use social media marketing to the max.

How I use social media marketing

Using social media for my business has enabled me to grow and market Scarletta Media, seek new business opportunities, expand my client base and my own knowledge and expertise.

As well as:

  • Participate in some fascinating and insightful conversations
  • Get me and my business noticed
  • Meet and work with many creative and talented associates
  • Launch Tweetupwoky aka Wokingham Tweetup
  • Turn into a little bit of a Twitterholic
  • And continue to earn a living, even during a recession whilst doing something I love
My social experience

My social media work experience includes campaigns for business owners, SME businesses and the corporate world. I help to create and implement social media strategies and plans, run group workshops and work on a consultancy basis. I am fortunate to work with many talented associates on various digital projects including website builds, rebranding projects and anything else creative I just like the look of.

I don’t believe the hype and there are many mis-conceptions about social media:

  1. It’s free – It is not free it takes a considerable amount of time, effort and energy to keep things going
  2. It’s people chatting all day about nonsense – There’s plenty of that about but it isn’t all about idle chit-chat. When you add the word “Marketing” it is about business
  3. Numbers of followers equal success – Having a large Twitter following or Likes on Facebook doesn’t deem a social success. Without the depth of trusted relationships with clients and tangible business results, the numbers mean very little

What I do know is that becoming a social business really does work if you have a plan, get stuck in, embrace it, be yourself and be sociable!

My career experience

Who is Scarletta?

Scarletta Media was founded in summer 2009 and the inspiration for the company name comes from one of our favourite restaurants in Nerja, Spain called – Scarletta’s. The restaurant is named after the daughter of the owners, Scarletta.
