Here in the northern hemisphere spring is springing, buds are blooming and suddenly as if overnight our garden is coming back to life.
I love this time of year, being a spring bunny the longer days are perfect opportunities to emerge and get outside aren’t they? I am sharing more on what is emerging over on Instagram if you’re into flowers, plants and gardening too.
As well as being in the garden, recently I’ve been talking about the importance of focusing on growing organic social media communities and not getting caught up in measuring success by numbers. As it does not mean you’re doing anything wrong if you don’t have hundreds or thousands of followers on social media.
I learnt pretty early on in my own entrepreneurial journey not to get caught up in the numbers. Instead I decided to work on paying attention to the people and this helped to alter my perspective immediately. And you also manage to avoid getting caught up in the social comparison vortex of doom and gloom, which is not a great place to be!
Everything needs time and patience to grow including social media communities and we all have to start somewhere
So if you feel frustrated that your social community is not growing as quickly as you’d like try looking at things with a different perspective.
What if you were given an opportunity to share your message, talk about your petite business and how you serve to a room full of say 100 people every day, would you say yes, grab the opportunity and show up day after day?
What if you knew you had the undivided attention of ten people reading your words and then they took action on your advice, would you be motivated to write and share more online?
What if one person approached you at an event and said that thanks to your work they have been able to overcome a huge challenge or have taken action on something important, would you realise that you do have the powerful ability to help make a difference to others?
Incredible isn’t it?
Because you definitely have the biggest room in the world available to you online with your social media platforms. It’s all there at your disposal filled with people who want to learn, grow and evolve. And you might be the right person they are looking for to help them achieve this.
So if you just image for a moment your social community, regardless of the number of people in it, all sitting there ready and waiting to hear from you. It changes things doesn’t it?
It doesn’t matter if your message helps one person in that moment or 100. You are still making a difference to someone somewhere
And this is what the majority of female entrepreneurs and petite business owners set out to achieve. To create and do something meaningful with our lives. To use our expertise, knowledge and wisdom to help others. To go on and build a legacy. That’s what’s it’s really all about isn’t it?
So I encourage you to focus on this instead, as the numbers really don’t matter. The people do.
As for my lovely garden, when we moved in almost a year ago, it was an overgrown wreck. Despite my impatience at wanting the new plants and shrubs to grow bigger and faster than they were willing to. Suddenly out of nowhere everything is taking shape and growing in its own time as it’s meant to. I just have to be patient and continue to look after it, don’t I?
So you see your social media community is not about size, it’s what you do with it – well so they say……
And it’s the same online. Because the reality is that creating and building a credible, respected and valued online presence does not happen overnight. It takes time, energy and focus. There are no quick and easy fixes.
Yes you can spend your dosh on paid advertising if you wish. But ultimately it’s not about getting more followers, it’s about nurturing and showing up for the social media communities you do have, regardless of size and then watching it grow in its own space and time.
